January 2002 - New Report: School Choice Sparks Milwaukee Public Schools Improvements
The Milwaukee Public Schools (MPS) has made important improvements at a time of major expansion in educational choice for Milwaukee parents, according to a new report by Milwaukee School Board member, John Gardner. Gardner argues that many of these improvements would not have been possible without the existence of school choice programs.

January 2002 - Education Freedom of States Ranked
The 2001 Education Freedom Index provides a ranking of all fifty states according to how free parents are to choose the best way to educate their children. Authored by Jay P. Greene of the Manhattan Institute, the report finds that academic achievement is positively correlated with educational freedom and that Arizona offers parents the most education freedom in the United States.

November 2001 - National Graduation Rate Study Released
The Manhattan Institute and the Black Alliance for Educational Options (BAEO) released a new study on graduation rates in the United States. The report was released at the National Press club in Washington, D.C. on November 13.

September 2001 - Financing the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program
The financing of the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program (MPCP) was modified in the past budget session. Under current law, school districts outside of Milwaukee neither gain nor lose funding because of the MPCP.

September 2001 - Cleveland Study Released
On September 4, the Ohio Department of Education released a study on the Cleveland Scholarship program. The research, conducted by Kim Metcalf of the Indiana Center for Evaluation at Indiana University, studies children enrolled in the program from kindergarten or first grade through second grade from 1998-2001.
