Enrollment Growth

MPCP has grown from seven schools and 337 students in 1990 to 17,275.4 students (full-time equivalent) at 124 schools in 2006-07. Beginning in 1998-99, MPCP students were allowed to choose from religious and non-religious private schools.

In October 2005, the Wisconsin Department of Public Instruction announced that the MPCP enrollment cap of 14,751 had been hit.

2005 Act 125, signed into law by Governor Jim Doyle (D), raised the enrollment cap on the MPCP to 22,500 students. This action prevented the rationing of seats in the MPCP.

By comparison, MPS enrollment in 2006-07 is 94,644 students (at 227 schools).
