Mayor Anthony Williams has committed to allowing D.C. Public Schools to keep local funding for students lost to private schools as a result of the D.C. Opportunity Scholarships Program. In addition to funding the D.C. Opportunity Scholarships Program, the FY 2004 appropriation provided D.C. Public Schools and public charter schools an additional $26 million to support their school improvement initiatives and efforts to obtain quality education facilities.
