Kelly O’Conner is a single mother raising two children, Stevie and Aysiana.
Her children are enrolled at St. Marcus School Lutheran School on Milwaukee’s North side. Stevie is in third grade and Aysiana is in K4. Both are participating in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program. Kelly believes the school is a blessing to her family.
Her son attended a public school for three years before attending St. Marcus. According to Kelly he was not thriving at the public school he attended and on several occasions was assaulted by other students. "He came home with scrapes and bruises."
Being a concerned parent and uncomfortable with the conditions at her son’s former school, Kelly sought out a better learning environment for her son. At the time of her search she read an article in the Milwaukee Business Journal about St. Marcus School, and decided to enroll her children for the upcoming school year.
"I want the best education possible for my children, so I exercised my parental right to select a school I thought would benefit them."
"The parental choice program gives parents like me a chance to be heard and show we care greatly about our children’s education."
"My son is thriving. His first report card was all A's." Aysiana is in kindergarten and already counting on a first grade level. Kelly adds that her daughter is also gaining valuable social etiquette in a loving environment that will benefit her as she gets older.
