Carmellett has two children. Willetta is enrolled in the Milwaukee Parental Choice Program and attends Lutheran Special School. Anchelle graduated from Catholic high school and attends Alverno College.
"If it wasn’t for choice, I don’t know where I’d be. I’m a single mom. Without the choice program I couldn’t afford to send Willetta to Lutheran Special School."

"I’m not knocking the Milwaukee Public Schools but there are things I believe that MPS can’t teach, like values. If you’re timid and unable to deal with the peer pressure, the public schools can be very hard to handle. Willetta would be lost in that environment."
